Tenure
Tenure isn't the guarantee of a job, only the guarantee of a fair process. The process helps protect us as faculty from capricious administrators who might respond to political pressures from legislators intent on re-election, boards appointed with less than full understanding of the principles and importance of academic freedom, and tiny but vocal interest groups. Tenure isn't perfect, but a lack of tenure would be a disaster for universities, their students and their surrounding communities.
Many of the forms needed for the tenure process are avaiable Academic Affairs website.
